VAN NUYS, CA — A well organized protest numbered in the hundreds broke out Monday at the Government Center in Van Nuys. Patients and caregivers of medical marijuana were

protesting the ongoing raids by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The main point of contention was the LAPD’s raid on The Karma Collective (a medical dispensary). The LAPD claimed the edibles they found inside Karma Collective were illegal, and the patients and caregivers claimed they were not. The law that made medical marijuana legal, Proposition 215, has no clear legal language on the use of edibles and their potency, or health safety when being made. The rally took place around noon on Monday, with some protesters showing up as early as 10:30am.

With loud bullhorns and signs, the protesters marched on the LAPD Valley Headquarters and threw a bunch of medical marijuana edibles in front of the station. They were shouting “We are patients, not criminals!” and “Make No Mistake, We’ll Still Bake! Make No Mistake, We’ll Still Bake!” Another issue is the LAPD is not protecting the medical dispensaries which are being burglarized. Apparently, after a burglary, if the medical dispensary reports it to the LAPD, they come and arrest the owners of the clinic.

According to www.asaaction.org — there have been a string a burglaries at LA area medical cannabis collectives and cooperatives in the last two weeks. When the LAPD responded to a call for help for the Karma Collective in Van Nuys, they arrested the operator!
