Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the Friday May 18, 7:30 p.m., performance of Porgy and Bess and the Sunday May 20, 7:30 p.m., performance of The Merry Widow. Placido Domingo, the Eli and Edythe Broad General Director stated, “I believe that it is very important for us to make opera accessible to as many people as possible.
I am certain that our special $20 tickets will cultivate new fans for opera and give many a chance to experience the drama and passion of this classic art form.” Both Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, with some of the composer’s bestloved songs, and The Merry Widow with its opulent staging and beautiful waltzes are fit to introduce opera to new fans.
The $20 tickets are now on sale at www.LAOpera.com or purchased in person at the Los Angeles Opera Box Office Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.. Enjoy a True Country Garden Fair on May 5 and 6 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Sepulveda Garden Center, 16633 Magnolia Boulevard, in Encino.
The Country Fair, sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, will offer a wide variety of plants and seeds for sale, gardening information, information about the local garden clubs and plant societies. One can also tour the community garden plots.
