Congressman Sherman Provides Replacement Medals To World War II Hero

Louis Buch, 91, Served Honorably in the U.S. Army During WWII

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — Louis N. Buch, born in 1926, served his country valiantly when needed in World War II.  Mr. Buch fought bravely during critical moments for the Allied Forces in the Philippines, including the Battle of Luzon. He achieved the rank of Technician Fifth Grade and was recognized as an expert with an M-1 Carbine rifle.

Recently, Mr. Buch contacted Congressman Brad Sherman to help him recoup lost awards earned during his Army service.  Congressman Sherman’s constituent services team worked with the National Personnel Records Center at the National Archives to recover Mr. Buch’s medals, ribbons, and badges.

Today, Congressman Sherman presented Louis N. Buch with the following:

·         American Campaign Medal;

·         Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 bronze service star;

·         World War II Victory Medal;

·         Good Conduct Medal;

·         Army of Occupation Medal with Japan clasp;

·         Philippine Liberation Ribbon;

·         Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII;

·         Expert Badge with Carbine Bar; and

·         Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar.

Mr. Buch was joined in Congressman Sherman’s office by his wife Pauline Buch and son Chuck Buch. Congressman Sherman also provided Mr. and Mrs. Buch with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Congressman Sherman issued the following statement after providing replacement medals to Louis. N. Buch:

“There is no greater cause than serving our country, and we must continue to honor those who have made that sacrifice.

“As the Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, I know the sacrifices our men and women made in the Asia Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Their military service and sacrifices continue to shape the world in which we live, which despite its problems, is infinitely better than the world in that era. Successive generations owe Mr. Buch our gratitude.

“I am working in Congress to ensure that veterans have access to quality health care and benefits. Of all the recognition I have received as a Member of Congress, I take great satisfaction in knowing that my voting record has earned an “A” rating from both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.”
