Thomas Calls On Sacramento Lawmakers To Pass Senate Bill 52, And Expose Secret Contributions

AGOURA HILLS, CA — George Christopher Thomas, President of the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council & Publisher of the Van Nuys News Press, has called on Sacramento Lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 52, and require the three largest funders of ballot measure ads (two largest on radio ads) to be clearly and prominently identified.

SB 52, the California DISCLOSE Act, would fight back against unlimited hidden spending on campaigns by letting voters know who really is paying for ballot measure ads — on the ads themselves. SB 52 is authored by Senators Mark Leno and Jerry Hill and sponsored by the California Clean Money Campaign.  It requires a 2/3 vote to pass without going to the ballot since it amends the Political Reform Act of 1974.

“I stand with the California Democratic Party, and believe we should support and implement full disclosure, on the ads themselves, of the largest major funders of all political television, radio, print, slate mailer, and online advertising for ballot measures, independent expenditures, and issue advocacy, in a way that clearly and unambiguously identifies the largest major donors,” said George Christopher Thomas.

Senate Bill 52 is an act to amend Sections 84505, 84506, and 84508 of, to add Sections 84503.1, 84503.2, 84503.3, 84503.4, and 84503.5 to, to repeal Sections 84502 and 84504 of, and to repeal and add Sections 84501, 84502, and 84503 of, the Government Code, relating to the Political Reform Act of 1974.
