Bird Watching & Great Fishing at Fawn Lake Resort

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — Along BC’s famous Fishing Highway (a.k.a. Highway 24), a bounty of rainbow trout is but one of the draws to be found along the famed stretch that promises access to more than 100 cast-friendly lakes. Draw number two: a tranquil spot where you can shine your line, from dawn to dusk, with little to distract you from your occupation.

A favourite for flyfishers, Fawn Lake, east of 100 Mile House, is a small but prolific body of water, where leisurely casts can produce rainbow catches that reach 10 to 12 pounds. An added bonus? The resort itself promises a peaceful retreat, complete cabins that are both rustic (read: no running water) and modern (fully equipped with all the comforts of home), decked out with fire pits and picnic tables. (To keep things handy, the resort’s own tackle shop offers flies, lures and licences.)

You can even change your point of view when you climb the resort’s bird-watching tower, a short jaunt from the cabins, for views of eagles, loons, deer and moose. Who knows, you may use your sky-high perspective to discover a new on-the-lake spot that’s best to shine your line. (For more information, please visit www.fawnlakeresort.com)

The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region is truly a land without limits. This little-known region in BC is all about outdoor adventure, unique communities and interesting characters.
Stretching across central British Columbia, beginning one hour north of Whistler, the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast extends from the wild fjords of the Central Pacific Coast to the gold-laden Cariboo Mountains, with infinite forests, pristine lakes, craggy peaks and the golden, grassy plains of the Chilcotin Plateau set in between.

Remote but luxurious guest ranches remain a favourite way for visitors to experience this unique land; following a day’s exploration by horseback, adventurers retreat to a beautiful spa to rest saddle-weary muscles.
From world-class heli-skiing and fishing to wildlife viewing and the historic Gold Rush Trail, the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region delivers mountains of adventure. (For more information on visiting Canada, please visit www.hellobc.com)
