MOVIE REVIEW # 45: Ice Age 3: Continental Drift

Fun on Ice and On Land – Ice Age 3 – Great Family Fun!

By Lorenzo Marchessi

Directors Steve Martino (Horton Hears A Who) and Mike Thumeier (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaur)took us on another adventure of fun and frolic with all our favorite characters and a few more for a great ride on water, land and even the back of a whale!

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift

First off – yes Scrat is back! – He’s got some amazing misadventures that will bring you to laughing tears. Some of the most incredible unimaginable attempts to get his acorn are seen – over and over again – and – as usual – to no success – sometimes. In fact there is a surprise ending with the lost city of Scratlantis and the wise elder Ariscratle (Voiced by Sir Patrick Stewart himself) that really puts a hysterical cap on the film!

Our Favorite Wooly Mammoth family is back – Ray Romano (Men of a Certain Age, Everybody Loves Raymond) as the father Manny, Queen Latifah (Chicago, Joyful Noise) as the mother Ellie and their daughter voiced by Keke Palmer (Shrink, True Jackson) – Peaches.

Also back are our favorite band of friends….Dennis Leary (The Amazing Spider-Man, Burn Notice) as Diego the Saber-Toothed Tiger and the ever disgusting but lovable Sid the Sloth voiced by the always talented John Leguizamo (Mulan Rougue, Repo Man),

The time has come for the continental plates to drift and the huge land masses are forcing all the prehistoric wildlife to move forward and into the ocean, unless they can reach a precipice that will lead them to stable land.

A new addition to this feature installment was Granny – voiced by the ever talented Wanda Sykes (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Futurama) – who has some of the funniest lines in the film and delivered completely natural to the scene. Also making an impressive display of evil is the prehistoric baboon Captian Gutt voiced by Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Death At A Funeral) and his first mate a female Saber Tiger Shira – voiced by Jenifer Lopez (Monster In Law, Maid in Manhattan).

The humor, quick wittedness and action made the whole audience fear for our family of friends lives and the most evil of Pirates tried to stop their attempts to survive Mother Nature’s growing pains.

Filled with great visuals and sight gags – the movie has a sharpness and freshness to it’s innocence. Great family fun and stay through the credits…they sing, you see the actors who did the voice and have fun with the animated characters throughout!
