A delightful comedy starring Tanna Frederick, who recently starred in the film and stage version of “Just 45 Minutes From Broadway” which had an eleven-month run at the Edgemar Center in 2010, has just opened at the Edgemar Center of the Arts and will run until July 10, 2011.

She is absolutely delightful in this 1995 comedy by A.R. Gurney (“Love Letters”), Greg and Kate are empty-nesters in a big city.  On a walk in the park, Greg is adopted by Sylvia, a bouncy, frisky poodle mix.  But, Kate comes to feel that she is losing Greg to his adoring new best friend who just loves to be petted, scratched, and talked to.  In addition to Greg’s new friend,

Kate must also contend with her own successful career and Greg’s loss of his     employment. There are a lot of laughs throughout as well as some thoughtful insights into the nature of love,  marriage, jealousy, and dogs.

The cast is impressive.  Stephen Howard plays Greg and Cathy Arden portrays his wife, Kate.  Tom Ayers is hysterical in his performance of three other characters (one male and two female).   “Sylvia” is directed by Gary Imhof who excels at bringing Gurney’s work to the theatre-going audience.  The Edgemar Center for the Arts, on the Main Stage, is located at 2437 Main Street, Santa Monica, CA 90405.  Admission $34.99 with a limited number of seats available at $25 (promo code “Sylvia”).  Call (310) 392-7327 or go online to www.edgemarcenter.org.
